Google’s Mini Search Appliance may be too Mini

Google have started selling their mini search appliance. Much like it’s larger gold brother, this is a LAN file indexing machine.

What is concerning however are the file limits that google imposes. Currently the mini appliance supports 50, 000 documents. Many of you who have been using computers casually may not see the relative “lowness” in this value. On the other hand, the likes of Prejudice and I have real trouble coming to terms with this limitation.

Big Boys, with Big Toys and Bad Attitudes

The amusing story below is apparently true. I was told it on many different occasions and have had many different details within the story. I don’t know or care what the truth is, although most versions seem to agree it was indeed and American ship.

Goddamn Smileys!

Smileys piss me off.

Yes, thats profanity, and justified in my opinion. Smileys are an awful idea.

No, I’m not talking about the ASCII art derivatives like :-) and it’s various facial expressions; I am talking about (1),(2),(3)…(6)….(a)….(z)…(@)…

Whats the problem with them? Well the problem is several things, and whats worst is that no one seems to put a morsel of brain power into fixing the monstrosity.

2/3 cup of water
1 tbsp butter
2 tbsp flour

Why Dieting is Stupid!

This was written some time ago in a plain text document, so it’s not well formatted, but I will come back to it and clean it up one day. Please enjoy it though.

I am fully aware that there are things that are not encountered for in this article, however I should remind you of the significance of Orders of Magnitude.

Cell Technology Looking Exciting

What do you think about this new technology? I think it’s welcome change in architecture policy. We all know that uni-processor systems are going to become limiting as the ratio between cost and speed increase becomes ever worse for major chip manufacturers.

My Dad forwarded me this article on cell processing. I think it is well worth a read, so enjoy.

new weblogs all around

I decided that I should set up this blogging software, and I am glad I did. For your average user, Wordpress offers enough flexibility to serve as an entire CMS. Moreover I think it’s actually quite well suited to the task, given what we have achieved in putting Dave’s blog together over at blogs.users.ra66i.co.uk/dave. It’s looking good. I have also picked up a copy of Zempt which looks like a relatively able client for these purposes. A new blog account service to be available with hosting@ra66i.co.uk maybe?
