Comments moderation nearly a month slow…

Summary: sorry for late moderation of some peoples comments, this post is a rant about spam, and i’ll be off wordpress as soon as I can be.

I haven’t been through the comment moderation list in over a month. Shame on me.

Sorry to those who’s comments were not posted until far later than they should have been.

Spam, spam, bloody spam. </rant>

Time for a Javascript based comment submission I think, and to move away from run of the mill blogging software, because there are few other solutions these days that actually seem to work, and in some ways, I have better things to do with my time than sift this crap.

Right ok. This is probably a really crap idea (almost worthy of an obscenity? you decide.), but I want to start filtering all urls in my comments into a list I’m going to publish as a DNS blacklist, which I will start distributing to anyone who desires it.

Screw you spamming gits. I’m going to filter all of my google searches from now on. Anything with your crap or something within a link catchers eye of your crap is not going to go near me.

What if comments can be flagged as comments for google, and google stop ranking sites by links left in comments?

In fact, links in comments should gain -ve weight, and the people should just be told.

I want a box on my site where i can publicly shame these fuckers and the google results will actually respond in a decent manner.

Sadly, that’s not possible because it’s subject to an attack by it’s very nature, with that you could demote the rank of competing sites. cryface.

Still I want to publicly shame them, but in order to not help them it must be private. Maybe I should e-mail _why and ask him to hide a spam site ban list in hoodwink.d for me…

I guess the rant wasn’t really over. Anyone else feel the pain?

Blog moved home, got another face lift

After a bunch of unruly hools ran around and proved their ’skillz’ injecting some sql on a few of my friends (not upgraded) Mambo sites, I spent a little time tearing out old accounts and bumpf from my shared vhosts. I’ve been looking at Google Apps for a while and registered ra66i.org underneath them (which amusingly is cheaper than going direct to go-daddy vs the features they give you).

Google Page Builder just really wasn’t doing it, and I didn’t fancy building some kind of mechanize crazy hack to get it up, although the thought of leveraging Google servers for my own blog does have some kind of sick appeal. Maybe I’ll move to ec2 at some point, but it’s a bit expensive for a blog I don’t care $876 per year about. If anyone wants to share some ec2 instances and bandwidth, though, give me a shout.

So, another day, another theme, although I’ll probably end up running this one for a year or so I should expect, short of any great blog production I could randomly do, if I get fed up with the web based interfaces of todays posting strategies.

There’s a 301 coming here from the old location, but some people will need to update links in the future.

ScribeFire

I picked up a copy of performancing a while back, and at the time the release was a little broken, but this is much more mature.

Will keep using for a while.

upgrade and face lift.

So I got a little fed up with the old look, and the fact that the archaic version of akisment I was running was letting through a bunch of stuff (probably along with the really old version of wordpress…)

So now, i’ve run this place through a little upgrade, and if you are one who knows, you’ll have noticed I’ve also changed the front face.

I have no idea on the quality of my adjustments to this theme. There may be things missing, but all I can say about it really is, it’s easier on my eyes on a bright monitor.

that having been said though, if you notice an error or truly gross colour co-ordination (besides the truly obvious of course ;-P) then please let me know.

Changes

This blog has been around for some time now, but today I decided to give it a bit of a face lift as there may be some interesting stuff appearing here soon, at least I plan to start using it as a bit of a notebook for things going on which can be public.

I had to go through a (painless) upgrade from my archaic version of wordpress to the latest. Well done to the Wordpress team for once again impressing me for being reliable with their software production. Also impressed with the new anti-spam plugin and service. I’ve opened up comments again, hopefully the service will keep this (lesser known) blog free of spam.

I’m relatively impressed with this theme i’ve picked up too. It’s not perfect, I’ve immediately reduced a little of the whitespace, but it’s generally got the site looking nice, and am quite happy with it for now, especially for the 5 minutes it’s taken me to get it very close to the kind of theme i’m happy with, and it renders nicely in lynx.

In other developments prejudice and I are starting a new business together (site still to be completed, possibly by Lamper of peligra.com). As a consiquence I’ve been a bit ‘AFK’ to most people as we’re coding very rapidly with the hope of our first product launch in under a month. More on that later…

new weblog

After much consideration over the last who knows how long, I finally decided to build a weblog page of my very own. Hopefully I will make better use of it than some other things. :-)
